From enrollment steps and course requirements to payment options and what to do if you fail the exam, we’ve covered everything you need to know. At Excel Realty Academy, our goal is to make the path to becoming a licensed Realtor® in BC simple, clear, and achievable.
1- I've decided to become real estate agent in BC. What do I need to do to get started?
- Before you register for the Real Estate Trading Services Licensing Course at UBC, take these steps:
- Visit the "BC Financial Services Authority" website to learn about licensing requirements.
- Review the BCFSA Good Reputation Guidelines to ensure you qualify for a real estate trading license.
2- What are the requirements to obtain a real estate license?
To get your real estate license, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be 19 years or older and proof of Canadian citizenship, Permanent Resident, or a work permit.
- Have a good reputation and no criminal record.
- Meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR) to be eligible to write the UBC exam.
- Register for the Real Estate Trading Services course at UBC, complete 20 assignments (400 questions total) within one year.
- Pass the UBC Real Estate licensing Exam within 2 years of completing your assignments.
- Complete Phase 1 of the Applied Practice Course to apply for a temporary license and join a brokerage.
- Complete Phase 2 of the Applied Practice Course while trading to obtain your full real estate license.
3- How can I enroll in the real estate trading services course?
- The Real Estate Trading Services Course is offered as a correspondence course through UBC on behalf of the BC Financial Services Authority.
- You can register:
- By phone at 604-822-8444
- Online at UBC registration page; this course is offered by the UBC.
- Our tutorial programs at Excel Realty Academy are designed to help you successfully complete the required UBC course.
4- Do I need to purchase a HP10BII+ calculator?
YES! You need this calculator (or an approved app, depending on your exam location) for the UBC Real Estate Exam. Mastering its use is essential for success on the math portion of the exam.
5- Can I work part-time as a REALTOR® while keeping my current job?
- Yes. Many new Realtors® start by splitting their time between their current job and real estate.
- As they build a solid client base and grow their real estate income, they often transition fully into their new career as a Realtor®.
6- What are the prerequisites of the Excel Realty Academy?
To ensure you can focus fully on your real estate studies, we require:
- You must be registered for the UBC Real Estate Trading Services Course.
- English proficiency:
- If you do not meet the BCFSA English requirement and are not fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, you must pass the CELPIP-General exam before starting our classes.
- If you are fluent in English, you may enroll and take the CELPIP-General exam later.
These prerequisites help you stay focused and prepared for success.
7- How much does it cost to register at the Excel Realty Academy?
Please see our “Our Programs & Fee” page for full details.
8- I already have experience as a REALTOR®. Can I self-study and take the BC real estate licensing exam?
UBC regularly updates course materials. Due to the challenging math and law sections and the overall difficulty of the exam, we strongly recommend our tutorial services for anyone who is not fully familiar with the latest material. Our program can help you prepare efficiently and pass with confidence.
9- I have failed the UBC real estate exam before, should I register for your real estate course?
- Absolutely!
- We have helped many students who previously failed the exam to succeed on their next attempt.
- Persistence alone isn’t enough — you need the right tools and guidance.
- Our approach is proven, techniques are first-rate, and our commitment is 100%.
10- What happens if I fail the UBC real estate exam?
- You can retake the exam after 90 days.
- If you attended all Excel Realty Academy classes, completed your homework, and wrote the UBC exam within 4 weeks of completing our schedule, failure is very unlikely.
- However, if you do not pass, you can re-enroll in our next available schedule for free within 6 months of your first class — no questions asked (just provide proof of exam results).
This is part of our IRONCLAD commitment to your success!
11- What is the difference between the UBC real estate course and the Excel Realty Academy real estate training program?
- The UBC Real Estate Trading Services Course is a mandatory government requirement for licensing.
- Excel Realty Academy is a tutorial program that helps you master the UBC material faster and pass the exam with confidence.
- We simplify complex topics and provide clear, real-world explanations so you can focus on understanding, not memorizing.
- You’ll receive chapter notes, visual charts, calculator guides, online training, and a hands-on computerized mock exam — everything you need to succeed.
- The UBC course is self-paced and correspondence-based, which means you study alone. Many students who go it alone (or use pre-recorded video courses) struggle to complete the requirements on time or end up repeating the course.
At Excel Realty Academy, you’re never alone — we guide you every step of the way.
12- How can I pay?
- Payments can be made by cash, e-transfer, or PayPal.
- To secure your seat, register at least two weeks before classes begin.
- Tuition fees are fully payable upon registration.
13- How are refunds processed?
- Please see our “Terms and Guarantees” page for our full refund policy.
14- May I enroll after the start date?
No. Each class builds on the previous one, so understanding earlier material is essential before moving forward.
15- What if I have to miss a class or two?
- We understand that life happens — emergencies or scheduling conflicts can arise.
- If you miss a class, we’ll do our best to re-schedule or make up the missed material at no extra cost.
- For full details, see our “Terms and Guarantees” page or give us a call.
